Complex Civil Litigation
Litigation and lawsuits are becoming more and more complicated. There are good and bad reasons for this. On the good side, property rights are becoming more complicated and the courts recognize this. On the bad side, complex litigation often falls under areas such as Superfund litigation, complicated bankruptcy reorganizations, labor - management relations, or patent or trademark infringement. We believe that the first job of a lawyer representing a business is to keep the business out of litigation. But sometimes you can't avoid it. Litigation, including complex litigation, is a fact of life.
If you or your company becomes involved in a complex lawsuit, you want a lawyer who is seasoned and experienced and knowledgeable in that area of the law. Many people "know" the answers to your questions. But very few can put these answers together in one ball of wax for your side when your company is in court and the legal issues are many and complex. Your lawyer should be up-front and honest with you. Sometimes your lawyer has to put other lawyers and parties in their places. You need a lawyer who can do this. A lawyer who is a fighter but also respected and trusted.
And most of all, you need a lawyer who will send a message that your company can and will fight to assert its rights or defend itself. It is easy to sue or be sued. But the real question is how you and your lawyer fight back.
